A paver patio is built from individual concrete or stone units set on a deep, compacted base. A concrete patio is one large poured slab. That single difference — many small pieces versus one big slab — is exactly why a paver patio holds up better, looks better, and is easier to live with over the long run.
Poured concrete cracks. It's not a question of if but when. As the ground freezes and thaws through a mid-Michigan winter, a solid concrete slab has nowhere to move, so it heaves and develops cracks you can't really fix. Pavers flex with the ground. The joints between each paver absorb that movement, so a properly installed paver patio stays level and crack-free season after season.
A concrete slab is only as good as the day it's poured. A paver patio can be lifted, re-leveled and reset — which is why pavers keep looking new for decades.
